Mt. Tam:
Mt. Tam is the big hill across the bay on the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge. From Berkeley, take the Richmond/San Rafael Bridge and exit the freeway soon after getting off the bridge in order to cross over the freeway and head west. Take a peak at San Quentin, spurt through the outskirts of Larkspur & eventually hop onto 101 aiming south towards San Francisco. Take the Tiburon/East Blithedale exit and go west until you've reached the Blithedale Gate and the start of Railroad Grade. Railroad Grade climbs for quite a while until the top of Mt.Tam comes along. The climb offers great views of the Bay Area and the coast. At the top of Railroad Grade, Eldridge Grade is just across the paved road and up a tad. Eldridge is a challenging descent. Rocky at top and fast near the bottom. Theres a tricky little jimmy from Eldridge to Indian Fire Trail to Hoo-Koo-E-Koo where Blithedale Ridge begins. Blithedale Ridge is 'Rollercoaster' around these parts. Rollercoasters are fun. |
