The Bay Area offers some terrific trail riding. Hills are wonderful things. Mountains are good too. Truth is anyone who's seen real mountains knows that the so-called mountains around here are really just big hills, but we're not complaining. Spend a few months in Iowa, where the only gradient to be found comes from riding into and out of a riverbed & where your significant other dumps you for some dorky wrestler. Then come back to these parts and see if you can keep from sobbing with joy in the window-seat of the plane, as the miles and miles of local hills swell underneath. Go for a ride and relish the wonders of lactic acid build-up in the legs every time the mean climbs bully you. Appreciate the watering eyes on fast and challenging descents and the worn out body parts at the end of a long ride. There are trails in them thar hills. Ride 'em.
There are road rides in them thar hills too. Lots and lots of wonderful road rides. Long and flat, short and steep, long and steep, long and flat and then steep: Whatever suits your fancy.
Here are a few highlighted rides to get you started. Good local maps are available at the shop and, for the truly adventurous, we're always happy to offer mediocre directions.
Please appreciate what we have to ride around here. We've got it really damn good. Let's keep the trails open and the motorists happy. Ride responsibly, do some trail maintenance and join the International Mountain Bicycling Association.

We've got absolutely nothing against Iowa or wrestlers, but we're staying here where the riding's swell and our buddies prefer long rides to getting drunk and wrestling on the front lawn. |
