| Golden State Rancho Cordova Crit - May 15, 2005
Pro/1/2

After racing in the P12 all spring with very little team presence, it was quite cool to race with 4 other goofy bastards in blue camo at the Rancho Cordova crit this Sunday.
Michael Creed graced the peloton with his Europro presence. With 5 laps to go gruppo compacto split with a 5 guys threatening to spoil the party. Only with the horsepower of a selfish star and bar decorated locomotive named “Bubba” did we catch the attack with less than a lap to finish.
I came out of last corner following JD from McGuire until he started sprinting backwards. I jumped over to a few more wheels to follow in gracefully [and I mean that in bad way suggesting that maybe I should have been more aggressive or simply faster] for 9th.
What’s better than blue camo? Lots of it!
Racing is FUN!

Result: Rich in 5th and Dylan in 7th
After a lovely, chatty ride up to the race, Dylan and I ended up putting together a decent finish in this race. This was another technical course for a business park with two or three odd turns thrown in. Dylan and I discussed strategy during our one lap of the course before the starting gun, and decided where the race would be won or lost. We both moved up into the front to fight for position with about 7 to go, and tried to stay close to each other. After the bell we moved up strong along the right side and it looked like our plan was coming together...and you know how Dylan likes when that happens.
Dylan made sure I was on his wheel, and just killed it into the last two. We moved up and there were only about four riders in front of us with two turns left and only one behind us, and then a pretty good gap. Unfortunately, the one behind us was Dean Laberge (Again!), and we accidentally-on-purpose gave him the best lead out of his successful 2005 season. He even gave us a hearty thank you on the cool down lap! You're welcome, Dean!
So thank you to Dylan for the effort! We sprinted in again for our second day with two of us in the top ten...and if you haven't notice we are inching closer to those tasty podium spots. Stay tuned!!! |
