Mt. Hamilton Road Race - May 29, 2005
by Doran Mori

I've joined the club with such riders as Forrest "Crash" Koenig in earning some BAT points in a P12 race. With some hardwork by the Solano/Art's Auto Racing road team I was able to finish 10th.

Started fast. Didn't warm up too much (like 5 mins). Hurt bad for a while. It got a little bit better after 15 minutes or so. I guess I was warmed up by now. Sitting 5th wheel near what I thought was the top but then realized I was far from it (like a few miles). I backed off to keep from blowing as the big boys attacked over and over for the KOM and disappeared into the fog.

I haven't raced enough to know who's who. I'm usually going way too hard to even grunt let alone introduce myself. The pros need name tags or something.

Once again I was in the B group in P12 race. Went over the top probably about 12th. Went down the descent like a little girl. But a little girl that got to the bottom intact. Unlike some poor AV soul that had to be airlifted out. Worked my way back up to a small chase group. We weren't going fast enough to chase anything though. Another group caught us. We went slower. I was going over a little roller near the feed zone and gapped the group. Climbed away from the group solo. Worked on my TT'ing.

Caught a guy who had cracked from the lead group. We worked together. He was pretty cracked, but gave a nice relief for 30 seconds when I was tired from pulling. My pulls were longer and longer til I just pulled the whole descent to the finish. He was nice enough to give me let me finish in front of him. Stayed away to take 10th place. 2 spots out of the prize money.

One of these days I'll get myself in the big move and get some prize money.

Next up: Nevada City and Pescadero.
