| When
we told Peter what these four bikes were worth, and that
his UC Berkeley bill had come, he passed out on us. He's
actually still back there behind the shop, and it's been
about 3 weeks... |
 |
Santa
Cruz Blur: Peter
went a bit crazy with his bikes, and the Blur is no exception.
Full XTR with a set of CrossMax tubeless wheels, Thomson
this, Chris King that, Fox the other thing, you get the
point. As with most of us here at the shop, Peter chooses
Avid mech disc brakes for his stopping power. Custom touches
include a road tube that has been stretched over his chainstay
to form an integrated chainstay protector.

Suzuki Hooptie:
The funniest thing about Peter's
collection of high-dollar bikes is that his car is worth
$800 bucks. The wheels on his road bike would fetch more
green on the open market than his car. Peter went to the
Suzuki car dealership (where are those?) and had them
strip everything out of the car to reduce the price. Those
grab bar handle things above the door, the floor mats,
even the warranty was bought back in an effort to control
the cost of his ride, and leave more money for bike stuff.
Pretty smart, huh? |
 |
Fit:
Peter's FIT is a pretty slick
little machine. Left side drive, titanium spokes, ti spindle,
and Kink Lowlife bars make for a pretty lightweight machine.
Fun fact about Peter: He's color blind, so we aren't sure
if the rear tire is a fashion statement, or if he thought
it was black. |

Specialized
Langster: Being
the sweet bike that it is, Peter too had to get a Langster.
His has seen the most dramatic changes of them all: Flat
bars and a 14-speed internally geared Rohloff hub. It
took some serious tweaking to get that hub to work with
the bike, but between Peter's stubbornness and Kyle's
ability to tinker an aircraft carrier engine into a Suzuki
Esteem, they made it happen. We're pretty sure that Peter
now has the only Langster on Earth with a rear hub worth
twice as much as the complete new bike. |
 |
Giant TCR:
So last year Peter gets accepted
to UC Berkeley, which cost about 15-million dollars a
week, and he proclaimed, "Man, I'm not gonna have any
money for a long time now... Guess I should buy the bikes
I want now." He then proceeded to buy about 11 Grand worth
of bikes. And that was just this Dura Ace TCR Composite
and his Blur. |
