| Funny
thing about Charlie is, he's the owner of the shop, yet
half of his bikes are older than some of the employees.
You'd think if anyone got new rides all the time it'd
be Charlie, but he finds something he likes and rides
the wheels of the freakin' thing. Also note his not-so-new
Dodge truck, which might be older than everyone at the
shop put together. |

Santa
Cruz Blur: Sometime
last year Charlie finally broke down and bought a new
mountain bike. A Root Beer colored Blur spec'd full XT
with the trusty Avid mech brakes and a Fox 100 RLC fork.
You may have noticed the reflector bracket on his seatpost,
which was installed as a joke but then nearly killed him
when the reflector fell off and plummeted into his speeding
rear wheel. Don't mess with your friend's bikes kids.

Berkeley Cruiser:
If bikes could talk, this
Berkeley would have some wild stories to tell, and not
just because it was built by wildman frame builder extraordinaire
Bernie Mikkellsen. A number of years back, Charlie, Pepe
and Dylan decided that every available singlespeed on
the market was not what they wanted and designed a better
mousetrap. People came from far and wide to get their
hands on a Berkeley Cruiser Company frame but most were
turned away because they weren't cool enough to own one.
Okay, actually there just wasn't enough supply to fill
the demand. |

Cooks Bros.:
You wanna talk old-school?
This is a Cooks Bros frameset complete with the Cooks
stem, bars, and fork and Phil Wood spider and sprocket,
true Shimano DX pedals (the originals) and a handful of
other goodies that make most collectors drool. |
 |
Tondu:
Charlie's brother Lou builds
frames, and Charlie's road bike is a trusty old Tondu
with this trick headtube badge. |

Santa Cruz
Heckler: Ah
yes, the Heckler. The first generation of the Heckler,
before the steroids gave it more travel and a fistful
of gussets. This puppy is decked out with a selection
of nicely worn Shimano components including a set of shifters
that Kyle broke the indicators off, one after the other,
on two consecutive rides (his first two mountain bike
rides actually), and then conveniently "forgot" to replace. |
 |
Panda Cruiser:
Further solidifying Charlie's
roots in the old-school segment of the market is this
26" Panda cruiser. Take note of the early generation Answer
suspension fork, which Charlie installed many years ago
when he raced the Mammoth Mountain Kamikaze Downhill on
this very bike. |
 |
Tondu Roadbike:
Here we have the Tondu road
bike. Built by Charlie's brother many moons ago, and rolling
strong ever since. Take note of the trick brake set-up
in back. Okay, it's not that trick, the brake bridge actually
got welded on a little too high and the brake shoes wouldn't
reach the rim unless it was mounted like this. But don't
tell anyone we told you. |
