New to Folding Bikes? Read

Dahon Sweet Pea ($): If
even a folded bike requires too much space in your trunk, boat
or plane, but not having wheels when you get where you're going
sounds dreadful, Solano Avenue Cyclery can help. The Sweet Pea
is tiny! So tiny in fact that riders over five-and-a-half feet
tall need not apply. For those that will fit this bike, you
will be treated to a light (21.6 pounds) bike which, while with
only 1-speed will not conquer mighty hills, should have you
leaving those on foot in the dust so long as the terrain stays
mostly flat. This model also allows you to match your new bike
to everything from your outfit to your car, as it comes in yellow,
mint green, orange, baby blue, and pink! |

Dahon Speed D7 ($$): For 2007 this bike replaces the massively popular Boardwalk 6. Upgrades include a new rear derailleur design with increased ground clearance, and a much stronger rear hub with a cassette type rear gear cluster which offers almost a 40% increase in gear range (with no added weight)! For budget conscious commuters riding BART during rush hour this is a favorite due to it's small folded size and low cost.

Dahon Speed P8 ($$$):: In our opinion, this is the best Bang-for-the-Buck folding bike out there. It weighs just 25.5 pounds, but will carry riders up to 230 pounds! Features we really like include light weight but sturdy wheels with sealed hubs, and double-wall rims with a CNC machined sidewall for maximum brake performance, powerful Kinetix linear pull brakes and high-end Avid brake levers, fast and grippy Schwalbe 70psi tires, and an 8-speed SRAM drivetrain. The words “Performance” and “Folding bike” don't usually appear in the same sentence at this price range, but Dahon has hit the nail on the head with the P8 providing excellent performance and great value. Our very own Charlie bought two of these bikes so he and his wife could follow the Tour de France for three weeks in a rental car without the need for add-on bike racks and the hassles of traveling with a full-sized bike. |

Dahon MU SL ($$$$): If you're into traveling, but can't get into the idea of having to rent crappy bikes at your destination or having to lug your precious ride around, check out the Dahon MU SL. This slick bike holds the title of World's lightest production folding bike and won't break the bank like a custom folder. Coming in at under 19 pounds, it supports up to a 230 pound rider, and is loaded with high-quality performance components like a butted aluminum frame, adjustable-position Syntace handlebars, powerful Kinetix linear pull brakes, Kinetix Pro wheels with a Pantour suspension front hub and an American Classic rear, puncture-resistant Schwalbe Kevlar 120psi folding tires, and a SRAM X7 drivetrain with TruVativ ISIS cranks. This bike looks fast just sitting still!
